  • (#2) You Can Skip Some Things

It may be tempting to get up close and personal with your brows in order to give them your undivided attention, but please skip the magnifying mirror. Instead of helping you, a magnifying mirror can cause you to lose perspective on how your brows look in relation to the rest of your face. Makeup artist Joey Healy (who's worked with Vanessa Hudgens) says:

"It's easy to lose perspective when you're shaping so close up. You'll end up overdoing it."

  • (#4) Create A Base For Your Brow Products With Shaping Wax

A post shared by Sher Pua (@sherpua) on

Makeup junkies are divided about whether it's better to set brows in place with a clear wax stick before or after applying the rest of your brow products. So you can really go either way. Iconic makeup artist Sir John uses brow wax before anything else to give brows a strong foundation. He notes

"I use a pomade or a wax on brows first to set them, then a matte pencil to shape, and finish up with a pressed powder to fill in the brows further."

Simply run a clear wax stick (like this one from NYX) over your freshly-groomed brows to set hairs in place and create the perfect canvas for your color.

  • (#9) Set The Whole Look With Eyebrow Gel

Finally, slick on a coat of brow gel to set the whole look in place. If you're completely happy with the color and shape you've created, stick to a clear brow gel (like this one from Anastasia Beverly Hills). If you want to add even more dimension, opt for a shade that's close to your natural color or even a shade or two darker for a full-on Cara Delevingne effect! Boy Brow from Glossier is the best there is.

Not into the whole perfectly-shaped brows thing? Try this trick; swipe on a coat of brow gel against your hair growth, and wiggle the wand back and forth. The product will amp up your brows and give you a bushier look!

  • (#10) Keep Your Other Makeup Minimal

Now that you've achieved the bold brows of your dreams, let those caterpillars be the star of the show! Look to brow-blessed celebrities for inspiration. Cara Delevingne, Lily Collins, and Camilla Belle all keep their makeup fairly minimal to let their brows shine. Late beauty icon Audrey Hepburn often did the same.

  • (#7) Emphasize The Peak Of Your Brow With Pencil

This tip from celebrity MUA Joey Healy is genius. She shares

"My favorite trick is to emphasis the brow peak by combing all the hair down above the arch, then making a little triangle of color at the peak [with filler], and finally brushing up the hair to blend and cover that little lift.”

This technique creates the illusion of a more dramatic peak, but since the product is then covered with existing hair, the effect seems more effortless.

  • (#5) Fill In Your Brow Shape With A Pencil

Now that your shape is flawless, reach for your brow pencil (try Revlon's ColorStay Brow Pencil). But instead of drawing thick, harsh lines to connect your start point to your arch to your end point, create small, hair-like strokes with the pencil to fill in the desired shape. It may take more time, but it will look so much more natural.
