  • Jim Had An Affair And The Documentary Producers Helped Cover It Up on Random Insane Fan Theories About ' The Office' That'll Blow Your Mind

(#10) Jim Had An Affair And The Documentary Producers Helped Cover It Up

Although this theory would devastate many fans if it's true, there are some hints that Jim could've cheated on Pam when he worked and lived in Philadelphia. If it happened, the producers of the documentary must have wanted to protect their storybook love story and decided not to show Jim's affair.

    From Redditor /u/annyc

I think it's possible that Jim had an affair, or at least had a relationship that was inappropriate, and the Producers helped protect Jim and Pam by not showing it.

    Evidence for:

Not much is shown of Jim's time in Philly. The Producers have chosen to show only things directly relating to his relationship with Pam. Why don't we meet any of his new coworkers? Perhaps because he's flirting with one of them?

Nellie guesses that Jim is having an affair (Andy's Ancestry), but I don't think this was ever clearly stated as false or addressed later. The Producers just show information to suggest that it's not that; Pam is only upset about the new job.

The Producers have clearly caught infidelity on camera before (I'm looking at you Stanley and Oscar)

The Producers, and crew, would all talk about and know that something was going on with Jim. I think this is why Brian, the boom guy, thought it would be okay to try and make a move on Pam.

In the Finale, Meredith states that she earned a Ph.d but it was never featured over the course of the series, because the Producers chose to focus on other parts of her character. This is the proof that we, the viewers, are not getting the whole story of what's going on with people.

Pam is asked during the Q and A why she didn't trust Jim, and she starts to answer, but Jim cuts her off. He awkwardly dances around what was going on, but says that it was his fault. He sort of implies that Pam was treated unfair in the editing and he was shown in a better light.

  • (#6) Everyone In The Office Wants To Be Famous

There could be a very good reason everyone at Dunder Mifflin acts like a crazy person: it's not because they're legitimately insane, but because they all want more camera time with the documentary crew.

Even if they don't know when the series will ever air, they believe they can be stars.

    From Redditor /u/Burnnoticelover

Kelly wanted to be a Kardashian style megastar, so she manufactured drama with Ryan.

Ryan tried to evolve with the times, first trying to be another Jim, then trying to be a rich, stylish New Yorker, and then becoming a hipster once that phenomenon set in.

Kevin realized that the doc crew loved his "stupid funny" moments, Stanley found out they laugh at his apathy, and Andy became nice to try to be a protagonist rather than a villain, then (mistakenly) assumed they liked jerk Andy better. The other employees either didn't want to waste time trying to be famous, like Oscar, or didn't realize what was going on around them, like Dwight.

  • (#7) Michael Scott Intentionally Plays The Fool

Can Michael Scott really be as dumb as he seems? There's a theory that Michael behaves the way he does just for his own amusement, and to stave off the monotony of life at a mid-level paper company.

    From Redditor /u/Youyouryours

I like to watch The Office from the perspective that every night after work, Michael meets up with his buddies at the bar and entertains everyone with stories of his crazy behavior. By watching it from this perspective Jim comes off as the smug loser and Michael's the cool guy, so cool that he's comfortable being laughed at, as long as it makes his job fun. There aren't too many moments that suggest this but he was the best salesperson for years and his numbers must be good because he keeps his job through all the downsizing. I also like to think he plays the fool to unite the staff in laughing at him.

There's this awesome moment in Season 4, episode 7 where Michael is comforting Jim for screwing up being a manager and he pulls out the, "that's what she said." Anyway, Jim looks at him and says, "that's what who says?" Michael then looks at him in all earnestness and says something like, "I don't know. I never know. I say things like that to lighten the tension, when things get hard."

  • The Office Is Written By Jim Halpert on Random Insane Fan Theories About ' The Office' That'll Blow Your Mind

(#11) The Office Is Written By Jim Halpert

Although Jim spends years as a lazy, childish prankster, he also comes across as one of the most likable characters on The Office. Why? Maybe it's because Jim Halpert wrote the show himself.

This theory gets pretty meta, but if you read the whole thing, it could explain why some characters change so much from the beginning of the show to the end. It's all how Jim perceived them.

    From Redditor /u/Yahnster

For many seasons Jim was the most "normal" guy at Dunder Mifflin, but what do we know about him besides that he is an all round nice guy? My theory is that Jim is the immature/lazy prankster of the office and he only comes off as the good guy because the show is written by his character (The documentary aspect is also a part of the story as we now know that the people "behind the camera" are a part of the fictional universe).

  • Stanley And Phyllis Had An Affair Before The Show Started on Random Insane Fan Theories About ' The Office' That'll Blow Your Mind

(#9) Stanley And Phyllis Had An Affair Before The Show Started

Stanley (Leslie David Baker) and Phyllis (Phyllis Smith) go way back. But how far? Some people believe they had an affair.

The theory is largely based on a comment Phyllis makes in the "Sexual Harassment" episode. When Toby tells the staff they have to disclose all office romances to HR, she asks if one-night stands count. When you consider which current employees have been around for a while, the list gets pretty small.

Stanley has been seated right across from Phyllis for years, and he's been known to cheat on his wives. The two are definitely close (according to Phyllis, at least). In the series finale, Stanley even gives Phyllis a sculpture he made of her.

  • Stanley Is In Purgatory on Random Insane Fan Theories About ' The Office' That'll Blow Your Mind

    (#12) Stanley Is In Purgatory

In the Season 5 episode "Stress Relief Part 1," Stanley has a serious heart attack, but he recovers. This theory suggests that he didn't actually make it and everything that comes after is actually viewed from inside Stanley's version of purgatory.

    From Redditor /u/Burnnoticelover

    It has been established that

    A) He is not a good person (Chewing out his own boss, multiple mistresses)

    B) He hates his job

I think the heart attack killed him, and being forced to work in the office is his punishment. You'll notice that the office is not the same as it was before. The characters have become exaggerated parodies of themselves. The daily events get weirder and weirder. This is Stanley's hell. When he retires, it's him having served his punishment in purgatory, and being able to move on to heaven.
