(#12) Rammstein Likes Coldplay (And Coldplay Likes Them Back)

If you had to guess what kind of music the members of Rammstein listened to, you would probably guess that they would stay in genre, maybe some Marilyn Manson or Slipknot. While those artists aren't off the table, the members of Rammstein's taste goes a little further afield. A few of them claim to listen to Coldplay, and so do Lindemann's kids, which he claims is a punishment for writing a song about how they should have been aborted. So, mixed feelings about Coldplay there.

Actually, Chris Martin of Coldplay is apparently a Rammstein fan too, he even covered their song "Amerika."
(#11) Till Lindemann Almost Participated In The Olympics

Rammstein's lead singer wasn't always a musician. Till Lindemann started off as a professional swimmer, and almost represented the GDR (German Democratic Republic) during the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Unfortunately, he was booted off the team because he went to look around Florence during the competition without permission, and also because his scores weren't impressive enough.

According to Lindemann, he wasn't enjoying the process anyway, as he told Playboy:

"It was horrible. When I still was in the swimming team I had swum 30 kilometres a day, getting up at five in the morning and in the evening I went to bed totally knackered. Now I had so much time to spend in the quarter with the cheap built houses and had to start fights to be accepted. And to drink lots of Schnapps, that counted."
(#9) Till Lindemann And Flake Lorenz Were Arrested After A Concert

While performing the song "Buck Dich" during a concert in Worcester, MA, singer Till Lindemann simulated banging from behind with keyboardist Flake Lorenz using a fake phallus. While though both men remained fully clothed during the act, they were arrested for "lewd and lascivious behavior" on June 5, 1999, before being released the next day.
(#2) They Actually Made Themselves Bleed For The 'Rosenrot' Video

"Rosenrot" is a song about a girl who persuades a priest to attack her parents. While the concept is certainly intense, the members of Rammstein weren't satisfied with the song and wanted something a little more interesting for the video.

They decided to add flagellation to the mix, foregoing all special effects. According to Zoran Bihac, who directed the music video:

"We were going to get a special effects guy to show the whip wounds and the band took me aside and said, ‘Come on, we’ll drink vodka and do it ourselves.’ The blood that you see, the wounds, it’s real stuff, they all went off to this tent that we had for the shoot, drunk a liter of vodka and then they just kept on rocking and went for it, and that was it. That’s what they did, even thinking about it now, it’s incredible.”
(#6) A Fan Once Asked Till Lindemann To Engage In Scat Play

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Till Lindemann was asked about the weirdest proposition he ever received from a fan. His answer? A fan politely asked if she could sh*t on his forehead.
"She offered me a 'praline,' one of those little chocolate pieces that they make in France, with truffles and stuff, the delicacies. She prepped in words more poetic and more romantic. Not like, 'Can I sh*t on your forehead?' She said it really politely. 'Can I offer you a praline?'"
(#14) They Used A Phallus-Like Cannon On Stage

During a particularly memorable live performance at Madison Square Garden, Till Lindemann rode around the stage on a phallic-shaped canon while singing the band's song "P*ssy." The cannon shot white foam at the audience, and just as the song was about to end, streamers dropped from the ceiling.

During the same concert, Lindemann wore 20-foot-wide steel angel wings that shot fire from the tips. Talk about a mood shift.
