  • Saiki Kusuo - 'The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.' on Random Anime Characters Who Make Themselves Weak On Purpos

(#7) Saiki Kusuo - 'The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.'

Saiki Kusuo is one of the most OP characters in world of anime, but he isn't happy about it. All he wants is to live an ordinary life, but his powers are constantly causing him problems. That's why he limits his powers as much as he can. In order to avoid turning everybody around him into stone, he wears special glasses which block this ability. In order to limit his powers enough that he doesn't accidentally destroy the world in his sleep, he wears two antennae on his head. With these on, his powers are still a lot stronger than he'd like, but at least they're manageable.

  • Fai D. Flowright - 'Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle' on Random Anime Characters Who Make Themselves Weak On Purpos

(#12) Fai D. Flowright - 'Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle'

The phoenix tattoo that covers Fai D. Flowright's back was put there to suppress his magical powers - powers that are so strong that if they get out of control they could destroy an entire dimension. After trading it to Yuuko, he decides to stop using magic for a while to avoid accidentally hurting anyone.

As it turns out, he's actually better off without his limiter. That's because due to a curse, he has no choice but to eliminate anyone whose powers exceed his own. Without the limit in place, there are far fewer people who actually fit that description.

  • Hiei on Random Anime Characters Who Make Themselves Weak On Purpos

    (#6) Hiei

    • Yu Yu Hakusho

Hiei's Jagan Eye is the key to some of his strongest techniques, but he usually keeps it covered with a headband. Similarly, he wears bandages on his arm in order to suppress his Dragon of the Darkness Flame. He only unleashes these techniques when it's absolutely necessary. That's because without the limits, his powers are strong enough to wreck everything around him, even taking weaker beings' lives just from being in its presence. What's more, using these attacks causes him serious physical damage - his arm was not happy with him after he used Dragon of the Darkness Flame.

  • Frieza on Random Anime Characters Who Make Themselves Weak On Purpos

    (#9) Frieza

    • Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, Plan to Destroy the Saiya-jin, Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge, Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock, Dragon Ball Z: Bardock – The Father of Goku, Dragon Ball

In an interesting inversion of how 'final forms' usually work, Frieza's fourth and strongest form is actually the version of him without any power limiters placed on him. All of his previous forms were designed to keep his power in check. Why does he do this? Because if he taps into his massive store of power, he can't keep up with it and loses energy over the course of a long battle.

  • Goku on Random Anime Characters Who Make Themselves Weak On Purpos

    (#8) Goku

    • Dragon Ball Z Kai, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound, Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler, Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge, Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan, Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies, Dragon Ball: The Path to Power, Plan to Destroy the Saiya-jin, Dragon Ball: Ssawora Son Goku, Igyeora Son Goku, Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins, Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, Dragon Ball Z: Bardock – The Father of Goku, Dragonball Evolution, Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly, Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure, Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone, Dragon Ball Z the Movie: The World's Strongest, Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug, Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!, Dragon Ball

When Goku and Piccolo Jr. are first starting to develop their strength, they wear weighted clothing. Goku literally never takes his off, while Piccolo only does for dramatic effect, not because he especially needs to. They intended to hamper their own strength in order to develop it, but with all the power-ups and transformations they eventually acquire, the weights barely make a dent in limiting them.

Other characters like Yamcha also use these weights over the course of the entire series. Sometimes they're visible,  and sometimes they just look like regular clothes.

  • Rock Lee on Random Anime Characters Who Make Themselves Weak On Purpos

    (#2) Rock Lee

    • Naruto, Naruto Shippūden, Naruto the Movie: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom, Naruto Shippuden the Movie, Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Will of Fire, Ninja World

As part of his training, Rock Lee wears weights on his legs. While most people who do this wear relatively light ones for basic conditioning, Lee's weights are so heavy that when they fall to the ground, the ground breaks. With the weights on he's already ridiculously strong and fast, but when he takes them off during his battle with Gaara he's buzzing around the stadium so fast that it's impossible to track him. This is how he manages to actually land a hit on Gaara, something no one else had been able to do, thusfar.
