The death of Grigori Rasputin wasn't the spectacle commonly portrayed by popular history, but someone did take out the legendary Russian mystic in 1916 - on the brink of the Russian Revolution. His legacy remains a complicated one in Russia, and at least one of his relatives - great-granddaughter Laurence Huot-Solovieff - aims to change it.
Huot-Solovieff, who grew up in France, is the only surviving Rasputin descendant to visit Russia. She has done so with the goal of exposing the "truth" about her ancestor: "He is either demonized or deified, and my mission is to try and make his image look more human, more normal."

(#8) James A. Garfield

James Garfield was only a few months into his first term as President of the United States when a gunman, Charles Guiteau, attacked him on July 2, 1881. Garfield died 79 days later from a heart attack and sepsis on September 19, 1881.
Conspiracy theories have emerged because of the lengthy interval between when the shooting occurred and the day Garfield passed away. Garfield's great-great-grandson Hank Garfield wrote the foreword for a book claiming that Garfield's physician murdered him.
Hank also authors fiction novels and teaches creative writing at the University of Maine.

(#7) Robert Kennedy

On June 5, 1968, Robert F. Kennedy died at the hand of Sirhan Sirhan. Several of Kennedy's descendants continue his unfinished work in American politics, including his grandson, Joe Kennedy III, a member of the House of Representatives. In 2013, Joe took over Barney Frank's seat in Massachusetts's fourth district.
In early 2018, Joe made headlines when Democrats chose him to give the party's response to President Donald Trump's State of the Union Address.

Human rights activist Malcolm X maintains a profound legacy that carries on through several of his children. X's daughters, Attallah and Ilyasah Shabazz, have spoken out on important social issues. Qubilah Shabazz, the second eldest daughter, allegedly attempted to avenge her father when she plotted to target Louis Farrakhan, who she believes assassinated X on February 21, 1965, but her plan was unsuccessful.
Another one of Malcolm X's daughters, Malikah Shabazz, made headlines in 2017 when police charged her and her daughter, Bettih, with stealing a rental truck. They also faced charges for animal abuse after authorities discovered the stolen vehicle contained seven poorly treated pit bulls.

(#9) Alexander Litvinenko
- Died at 44 (1962-2006)
Defected Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko was the world's first-known assassination victim who died from radiation. On November 1, 2006, Litvinenko had unknowingly consumed polonium-laced tea at a London hotel. After spending roughly three weeks in the hospital, Litvinenko passed away on November 23, 2006. Some suspected Vladimir Putin had a hand in the act, but the Russian government denied any involvement.
The Litvinenko family, including his widow, Marina, and his son named Anatoly, have continued to fight for the truth. After a 10-year inquiry, the Litvinenkos heard evidence that Putin had indeed ordered the polonium poisoning, though the Russian leader has yet to take responsibility.
Anatoly pledged to continue the hunt for justice, stating, "I feel a sense of duty. My father did a hell of a lot to get me to this country to make sure I was safe. I need to respect that and do whatever I can to honor his memory. Finding the truth is the closest we can get to justice for my father."

Being the son of a Beatle might carry insurmountable expectations, but both of John Lennon's sons have followed in their father's footsteps into the music industry. Julian Lennon is the eldest child from John's first marriage. The two had a complicated relationship, which continued beyond John's 1980 assassination. Paul McCartney has said Julian was the inspiration behind "Hey Jude;" at the time, Julian's parents were divorcing, and McCartney wanted to hearten the boy. After his father's death, Julian established himself as a talented musician, earning a Grammy nomination in 1985 for Best New Artist.
John and Yoko Ono's son Sean Lennon was only 5 when Mark David Chapman fatally shot his father. Sean still collaborates regularly with his mother, and some consider his musical style more eccentric than Julian's. Though Sean hasn't enjoyed the same success as his brother, he remains active as the lead singer of a band named The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.
