  (#5) Hana & The Wolfman - 'Wolf Children'

  Though Wolf Children primarily focuses on a single human mother named Hana struggling to raise her human/wolf hybrid children, the relationship that led to their births is also an important part of the story. Her former lover, the unnamed Wolf Man, had both a human and a wolf form. While in his human form, he attended the same university as Hana. The two fall in love, and begin building their family - but early in the children's lives, the Wolf Man passes away from unknown causes, leading Hana to manage the children on her own.

  (#19) Hotaru & Gin - 'Hotarubi no Mori e'

  In this moving film, Hotaru meets a forest spirit named Gin near her uncle's house. Gin warns her that she's not allowed to touch him as a human's touch would make him disappear forever. Despite the danger she poses to him, Gin becomes friends with Hotaru and she comes to visit him every summer throughout the years. During their time together, they both fall in love. But Gin can't even do simple things such as holding her hand. As a spirit who cannot survive a human's touch, their relationship is complicated. But their relationship proves that their love goes deeper than that.

  (#15) Raphtalia & Naofumi - 'The Rising Of The Shield Hero'

  Raphtalia, a mixed race of Raccoon and Tanuki, is initially scared of Naofumi as her past masters treated her terribly. But after seeing how Naofumi always treats her with respect and kindness, Raphtalia falls in love with him. Although her feelings are unrequited at first, Naofumi comes to love her romantically by the end of the season.

  (#2) Chise Hatori & Elias Ainsworth - 'The Ancient Magus' Bride'

  No one is quite sure exactly what Elias Ainsworth is, but one thing is clear - he's not human. His typical form is a large, gangly black body with a cow skull for a head, though he's able to take on a humanlike appearance when he needs to blend in. Elias meets Chise Hatori, a human girl with incredible magical power, when he finds her for sale at a slave auction. He buys her, not with the intention of actually enslaving her, but with the intention of giving her the choice to learn magic from him - and, he hopes, eventually become his wife if she so chooses.

  Though their actual relationship is slow to develop thanks to the trauma Chise endured before meeting Elias, the two eventually do develop a real relationship. While Elias provides Chise with physical safety, magical instruction, and a sense of belonging, she teaches him how to understand the human heart.

  (#4) Haku & Chihiro - 'Spirited Away'

  When Chihiro is separated from her parents and whisked away to a magical world, she's forced to endure hard work in a bathhouse frequented by spirits. Exhausted and ill-equipped for the job, all Chihiro wants is to go home. She finds solace in Haku, a boy her age who she thinks is a fellow human, but who turns out to be the spirit of the Haku river whose natural form is a dragon. Despite their differences, the two still forge a beautiful bond that they'll always carry with them, even after Chihiro returns to her own world.

  (#14) King Bradley & Mrs. Bradley - 'Fullmetal Alchemist'

  King Bradley may look human, but he's actually a homunculus - Pride in the 2003 version of Fullmetal Alchemist, and Wrath in the 2009 version. He has a human wife. Not much is known about Mrs. Bradley, except that she's a kind, supportive person who King Bradley actually loves.

  What's great about this couple is that their relationship shows a side of King Bradley that no other part of the series does. He may be a cruel despot who loves violence, but he's also capable of feelings that are more tender. The fact that he is capable of love doesn't excuse his villainous behavior, but it does deepen and complicate his character.
