  • Is The Night King Just Really Good At Warging? on Random Insanely Convincing Fan Theories About The Night King On Game Of Thrones

(#6) Is The Night King Just Really Good At Warging?

Redditor Arya_Granger has a compelling theory that explains the Night King's awesome power. They believe the Night King is warging into thousands of dead corpses simultaneously. They point out that we've seen Bran warg into animals relatively easily, but humans presented more of a difficulty. The dead, however, have no minds at all and would thus be the easiest to control.

Additionally, this could explain how the Night King was able to sense Bran. Wargs can always feel the presence of another warg.

  • The Night King Is The Last Hero on Random Insanely Convincing Fan Theories About The Night King On Game Of Thrones

(#10) The Night King Is The Last Hero

Azor Ahai isn't the only savior figure in A Song of Ice and Fire. The Northerners have their own legends of the man who took down the White Walkers, and they called him the Last Hero. The Last Hero was said to have brought about the end of the Long Night by uniting with the Children of the Forest, and winning the Battle for the Dawn.

Now, we haven't officially seen the Last Hero in Game of Thrones yet, but some fans have speculated that he's been hiding in plain sight. Redditor cxtxzxn believes that the Night King is actually the Last Hero. They reason that if all humanity needed to defeat the White Walkers was the Children of the Forest, the Children themselves would have already beaten back their icy enemies.

They think the Night King was a Stark, and he used his warging ability, combined with the Children's magic, to take control of the White Walkers and march them deep into the north. The Night King also built the Wall, to keep the White Walkers contained. After thousands of years, however, his identity has become lost, and that's why he's currently invading Westeros.

  • Is The Night King An Ancient Stark? on Random Insanely Convincing Fan Theories About The Night King On Game Of Thrones

(#3) Is The Night King An Ancient Stark?

People have been speculating that the Night King is a Stark for a long time, and we've got some compelling evidence. For one, in the books, the Stark family nanny Old Nan tells Bran that the Night's King (his title in the books) was a Stark—named Brandon, in fact.

Even the Stark family slogan, "Winter Is Coming," could be a reference to a Stark Night King's alliance with the Others. Redditor ThouCantTouchThis elaborated on this suggestion, noting the strange mental connection between Bran Stark and the Night King, particularly the fact that both have ties to wargs.

  • Jon Snow Is Destined To Become The Night King on Random Insanely Convincing Fan Theories About The Night King On Game Of Thrones

(#12) Jon Snow Is Destined To Become The Night King

The books frequently suggest that Jon Snow will become some sort of king. Reddit user theDarkLordOfMordor theorizes that Snow will actually become the Night King.

We know the Night King has close ties to the Starks. Of course, Jon is a Stark through his mother, Ned's sister Lyanna. What if Jon himself removes the dragonglass from the Night King's chest? What would happen? Perhaps Jon would warg into the Night King, and become the big bad himself. It would certainly be a poetically dismal end for a man who has dedicated his life to destroying the White Walkers.

  • Hodor Is The Night King on Random Insanely Convincing Fan Theories About The Night King On Game Of Thrones

(#16) Hodor Is The Night King

What if the dearly departed Hodor is actually the Night King? This rather far-fetched theory from Redditor narglesconmigo starts like this: Bran wargs into Hodor. Hodor then gets warged into some weird time-loop that ensures he'll still be alive—but his future self, who's become a White Walker, captures his past self.

And Hodor is now coming to get Bran, so he can get to Old Nan (and his memories) through her.

  • The Night King Can Only Be Defeated By One Man: Qyburn on Random Insanely Convincing Fan Theories About The Night King On Game Of Thrones

(#13) The Night King Can Only Be Defeated By One Man: Qyburn

According to Reddit user Chatelaine_Thecla, Qyburn will be the salvation of Westeros. They believe Qyburn will use his understanding of undead biology and natural scientific aptitude to "hack the Night King's undead.net and bring it all down." Qyburn represents the triumph of science over magic, and after defeating the Night King, he'll usher in a more modern future for Westeros.
