  This weird car name at least has a reason for being weird: It's the name of a tribe of super-bad nomads living in the Sahara Desert. Known for their toughness, ingenuity and fierce independence, the Tuareg (also know as the Touareg or the Twareg) are admired and feared by fighters the world over. Still, doesn't excuse them ferriners fer spellin' their name so weird, or VW for using the unpronounceable Touareg variant.

  (#2) Suzuki Every/Scrum Joypop Turbo

  Compact, lightweight, mid-engine, turbocharged four-wheel-drive. Sounds like a recipe for a fantastic rally car, doesn't it? It probably would be, if the vehicle in question hadn't been the Every compact (kei) minivan. The standard model didn't come with a turbo, but for a few yen more buyers got both a blower and a Joypop badge on the fender. While the Every Joypop name is amusing, you have to wonder if Suzuki was scraping the bottom of the barrel when they later renamed this minivan the Scrum.

  Also sold in America as the Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth Conquest, the Starion was one of several fantastic performance cars to come out of Mopar-Mitsubishi's Diamond Star Motors era. When it was introduced in 1982, a rumor began circulating that the Starion's name was the result of an overseas phone call gone wrong. Story has it, Mitsubishi intended to call this car the "Stallion." The fact that this car actually was named for a mythical stallion called Arion, and that its badge was a horse's head probably didn't help matters any.

  Probably the most aggressively cute thing ever to leap from Saturday morning cartoons and into the bombed-out driveways of post-war Italian car buyers. It might look like a full-sized toy car, but manufacturer Volugrafo thought their Bimbo would get Italians moving again. They were wrong. But this car did make history for being the only cute, red-headed bimbo on Earth that couldn't get Italian men moving.

  The result of two Russian and Chinese automakers' attempts to produce a knockoff of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. So named in honor of American president George W. Bush, the original Derways Cowboy.

  Actually, this was one of the better cars in Opel's history, particularly when it was transformed into a world-beating rally car in 1981. Still, Ascona doesn't really sound like a rally car. It sounds like something you'd eat with a mocha latte cappuccino.
