  • Genma Himuro on Random Anime Characters Who Suffered A Fate Worse Than Death

    (#17) Genma Himuro

    • Film character

Toward the end of Ninja Scroll, Genma Himuro's villainous behavior comes to an end when he's encased in gold and thrown into the Pacific Ocean, where he'll remain for as long as that particular ocean exists. While most people would pass away under these circumstances, Genma is immortal.

The irony is that Genma could shuffle of this mortal coil if he just stopped putting so much effort into being immortal. His immortality is achieved due to being able to precisely control the behavior of every single one of his cells. He doesn't have to exist in torment forever. Genma is cursed by his own stubbornness.

  • Ymir on Random Anime Characters Who Suffered A Fate Worse Than Death

    (#10) Ymir

    • Fictional Character

Ymir's life started off rough, as she grew up homeless in the streets of Marley. Through a bizarre turn of events she became the leader of an underground cult, for which she was eventually punished for by the government. After being injected with titan syrum, Ymir was turned into a pure titan, and spent the next 60 years mindlessly wandering around, an experience she describes as "an endless nightmare." She was only able to regain human conciousness after encountering and eating a "warrior" named Marcel, a comrade of Annie, Bertolt, and Reiner.

  • Noah Kaiba Was Trapped In A Virtual World In 'Yu-Gi-Oh!' on Random Anime Characters Who Suffered A Fate Worse Than Death

(#16) Noah Kaiba Was Trapped In A Virtual World In 'Yu-Gi-Oh!'

Noah Kaiba could have passed away in an accident, which would have been a tragic but simple end to his life. Instead of allowing his son to die, Gozaburo Kaiba imprisoned his spirit in a virtual world. At first, this was great - he was able to continue his childhood and spend quality time with his father. But as time wore on, being trapped in a virtual world became increasingly horrifying. Gozaburo was too preoccupied with raising (and abusing) his adoptive children and his company to pay attention to Noah. What's more, he was unable to mature past childhood. Slowly, living in the virtual world turned into an existential nightmare. Isolation drove him insane, and he sought revenge on Mokuba and Seto before finally accepting his own demise, and being allowed to pass on.

  • Hyakkimaru Is Born Without Most Of His Body Parts In 'Dororo' on Random Anime Characters Who Suffered A Fate Worse Than Death

(#3) Hyakkimaru Is Born Without Most Of His Body Parts In 'Dororo'

From the moment he was born, Hyakkimaru has undergone many challenges and hardships. His own father sacrificed him to the demons so that his land can prosper. As a part of his father's deal, the demons stole most of Hyakkimaru's vital body parts such as his limbs, nose, eyes, ears, and even skin. He is then abandoned as a newborn baby. Luckily, he is found and raised by Jukai, a doctor who makes prostheses. And although Hyakkimaru learns to survive and fight with his prostheses, he suffers from a curse made even more terrible because it was his own father that brought it upon him.

  • Alexander & Nina Tucker Are Horribly Fused In 'Fullmetal Alchemist' on Random Anime Characters Who Suffered A Fate Worse Than Death

(#1) Alexander & Nina Tucker Are Horribly Fused In 'Fullmetal Alchemist'

Nina Tucker and her dog Alexander are perhaps the most classic examples of this trope, but that doesn't make their story any less tragic. Nina's father, Shou Tucker, is a state alchemist who needs to prove his accomplishments in order to maintain his standing. Rather than actually attempt to make something happen for real, he fuses his pre-school aged daughter's body with that of the family dog. While she's still able to communicate to some degree, her existence is perceived as so utterly miserable that Scar decides to take her life out of mercy.

  • Szayel Aporro Granz on Random Anime Characters Who Suffered A Fate Worse Than Death

    (#14) Szayel Aporro Granz

    • Fictional Character

While he's committed atrocious crimes, Szayelaporro's excruciating and slow death is quite difficult to watch. During his fight with Mayuri, Szayelaporro is injected with a superhuman drug that causes his senses to experience time much more slowly than the average person. In other words, one second should feel like a century. Mayuri stabs Szayelaporro's hand with the intent of him experiencing pain that lasts over a hundred years. Although it's a few seconds for us, Szayelaporro undergoes centuries worth of time in pain before finally being stabbed in the heart.
