The INS Vikrant, India’s first domestically built aircraft carrier, has a top speed of 28 knots and is designed to carry more than 30 aircraft on two take-off and one landing runways. In addition, as part of the Indian Armed Forces, the Indian Navy, established in 1947 under the Indian Ministry of Defence, has 155 vessels of various types, including an aircraft carrier, two amphibious transport dock, five tank landing craft, and 11 destroyers, 19 frigates, 19 submarines, 20 other combat support ships, as well as missile boats, patrol boats, minesweepers, landing craft and other combat vessels.

In recent years, India has begun to develop its maritime power, actively buying foreign vessels, but also developing domestic submarines and aircraft carriers, and plans to build a blue-water Navy.
