Ragas is the melodic system of Indian classical music, which is called the soul of Indian classical music, the basic tone of Indian classical music and the seed of melody. It’s a melodic framework. It comes in many varieties, each with its own particular scale, interval and melody fragment, and expresses a particular meaning, but the Lage itself is a framework, enriched and perfected by the improvisation of the musicians.
