In 1939, with the beginning of the Second World War, the Chief of Staff of the Royal Australian Air Force increased the bulk storage and supply of aviation fuel throughout Australia in defense of Australia. At the meeting, 31 inland aircraft fuel depots (IAFD) were identified to store aircraft fuel built of brick, concrete and steel. By the beginning of 1944, a total of 31 iafds were fully operational and all sites were close to railway lines, accessible to railway tankers and located far from the airport

These depots were originally used to store fuel in barrels and were referred to as “Aviation mental reserve inland depots”, other depots as “RAAF inland depots” and later as “RAAF inland gasoline depots (RIPD)”. The random tool generates the license date, commissioning date, city and so on.
