About This Tool

Following the introduction of the parole system at the state and federal levels in the United States in 1942, there was widespread public concern that the early release of prisoners might increase criminal activity. As a result, calls for longer sentences for offenders and for uniform sentencing standards are rising. In the mid-1970s, the US re-established sentencing rules that required judges to impose “fixed sentences, ” mandatory minimum sentences for many criminal offences and the abolition of some parole boards.

At present, although the vast majority of states still have parole provisions, only 14 states retain parole boards. The random tool compiles lists of 27 parole boards, including those in different states and cities. With the generator, we can see that only a few states still have parole boards. It is hard for the agency to judge whether it works on prisoners, but it is certainly scary for the public.

Click the "Display All Items" button and you will get a list of Parole Boards in the United States.
