About This Tool

Onondaga county was founded in 1794. The county is named after a member of the Iroquois, Onondaga people. Onondaga is a county in the midwest of New York State. 2,087 square kilometres. According to the 2000 U.S. census, there are 458,336 people.

The ONONDAGA nation was one of the six native American tribes that made up the Iroquois Confederacy. The Nation’s ancestral lands are in central New York, so it’s a natural gathering place for many of the city’s historic landmarks.
