About This Tool
After the Indian war, there were a large number of Indian orphans who did not speak English and were hostile to white people. The reformers’ solution was to civilize the savages, and the cost of training an American citizen was much lower than the cost of killing an Indian.
The system began in 1879. Richard Henry Pratt, a veteran, founded the first boarding school in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He modelled his education on the Hampton School of Agriculture for Black Virginians, and on his successful management of Sioux and Cheyenne prisoners. There are 142 aboriginal boarding schools in the United States as of today. Please check the random tool generator for school address, Year of establishment, area, etc. .
