About This Tool

General elections of the United Kingdom are elections for Members of Parliament, Britain’s highest legislative body, and Members of Parliament often referred to as the member of Parliament. The maximum term of office of a member of parliament is five years but maybe terminated prematurely by the dissolution of parliament. On April 18, 2017, British Prime Minister Theresa May announced that Britain would hold an early general election on June 8 to allow the new government to better represent Britain in “Brexit” negotiations with the European Union. On June 9, 2017, the British general election opened, the ruling Conservative Party failed to secure a majority in the House of Commons, unable to form a government. Teresa then announced that he would negotiate a coalition government at the Democratic Unionist Party.
