  Strengths: He's a master of disguise and manipulation through physical transformation. He's also got a penchant for generating magical crystal orbs from his hand that can show you your dreams, reveal what someone's doing in another location, or even enchant your mind.

  Reputation: As the Grand Vizier of Agrabah and the Sultan's most trusted adviser, Jafar is one of the most powerful people in the kingdom. However, with his snake staff and bad-guy facial hair, he's obviously a villain to anyone who isn't completely oblivious.

  Beard Length: Around 6 inches of well-groomed goatee, curled in an overtly villainous manner.

  Strengths: Before he ever became a genie, he was a powerful sorcerer (and, briefly, the most powerful sorcerer), and through it all, his biggest defining strength was his propensity for manipulation. More than simply using magic, he could bend people - namely the Sultan - to his whim.

  Weaknesses: Greed for power is Jafar's ultimate foible. He'll do anything to become more and more powerful, even at the expense of his own self-interest.

  Reputation: Contemptuous, short-tempered, and often vindictive, Snape isn't a beloved instructor at Hogwarts by any stretch of the imagination. However, he is an undeniably skilled wizard, quick to the draw with his wand, and brilliant at potions.

  Beard Length: Snape is not described as having a beard in the books, and is depicted as clean shaven in the films. However, Mary GrandPré, the illustrator of the US Scholastic editions of the books, does draw Snape with an oily goatee.

  Strengths: He's nearly unmatched when it comes to potion-making. He's also a master of occlumency, making his mind almost impervious to magical intrusion and penetration.

  Weaknesses: He's incredibly vain and defensive when it comes to his intellect and his skills. He's also got a huge chip on his shoulder over his life's mission to secretly watch over and guide The Boy Who Lived.

  Reputation: Known as The Chosen One and The Boy Who Lived, Harry Potter's reputation precedes him as the prophesized defeater of ultimate evil - though it's a prophecy he more than lives up to. Despite the annual mayhem caused by his nemesis, Lord Voldemort, Potter goes on to become a full-fledged master of magic over the course of his career at Hogwarts.

  Strengths: He becomes the hero who saves all of mankind from a magical fascist, and he does so through sheer bravery. He risks his life to do what is right, using his innate talent and deeply ingrained goodness.

  Weaknesses: Potter can be very impulsive, jumping to conclusions and being manipulated by false leads. He's also loyal to a fault and his dedication to his friends can be used against him.

  Reputation: Harry Dresden, of The Dresden Files, is a hard-boiled private detective with a knack for tracking people down, and also casting spells. He's a wizard PI, to be specific, and he deals primarily in paranormal cases in Chicago.

  Beard Length: Light stubble.

  Strengths: He's quite powerful for his age and experience level, and particularly good at thaumaturgy, which is the ability to create a magical link between a person and an object - similar to how a voodoo doll works. Dresden primarily uses this skill to locate people. However, he's also exceedingly talented at elemental spell work and kinetic energy spells.

  Weaknesses: While he steadily learns and grows as a wizard, honing his skills, he's a bit unfocused and chaotic in its usage, making him something of a loose cannon. He also has more than his fair share of mortal enemies who wear him down and make him vulnerable.

  Reputation: Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, is sent off to sea on a dilapidated boat by his usurping brother, and ends up shipwrecked on an island. As a wise and learned man, Prospero teaches himself the ways of magic and becomes a powerful sorcerer.

  Beard Length: Prospero is generally depicted with a full, generous, bushy beard about 4 to 8 inches, which likely grows thicker the longer he remains on his island.

  Strengths: Prospero is a quick learner, an autodidact, and seemingly naturally adept at magic. Just from reading books on the subject, and repeated practice, he learns how to enchant and control other beings - which he is very good at, considering his power over the spirit Ariel and the monstrous Caliban. He can even resurrect beings who have passed into the next world.

  Weaknesses: He's got a bit of single-minded tunnel vision, and is often unable to see things happening outside of his primary focus - like how his brother is trying to screw him over.
