(#18) Victor Cafe - ‘Rocky Balboa’ And ‘Creed’
When Rocky Balboa was released in 2006, 16 years after the prior Rocky film, the Italian Stallion was back in Philadelphia running an Italian restaurant called Adrian’s. The fictional restaurant, which also appears in Creed, was, of course, named after his late wife Adrian.
But in real life, it’s called the Victor Cafe and can be found in South Philadelphia offering live opera every evening.
(#17) L Street Tavern - ‘Good Will Hunting’
In Good Will Hunting, L Street Tavern is the go-to spot for Will (Matt Damon) and Chuckie (Ben Affleck) to drink and hang out with their friends. It’s also where Will introduces them to Skyler (Minnie Driver).
The real South Boston bar was actually handpicked by director Gus Van Sant for its authenticity. And let’s face it, if you’re going to South Boston, you’re going to want to stop by a real-deal Irish pub.
(#4) Formosa Cafe - ‘L.A. Confidential’
Formosa Cafe in Los Angeles has an extra-rich history of Hollywood stars dropping by since its opening in 1939, so it was only right that it also appeared in L.A. Confidential. According to legend, it was at Formosa Cafe that Frank Sinatra would flirt with Ava Gardner; John Wayne would pass out and make himself breakfast in the morning; and Johnny Depp and Tim Burton would plot their next project.
In June 2019, Formosa Cafe reopened after a $2.4 million restoration project to make it look like its old self again following an ill-advised remodel.
(#7) Cicada Restaurant - 'Pretty Woman'
In one memorable scene from Pretty Woman, Vivian (Julia Roberts) struggles to display proper fancy restaurant etiquette while Edward (Richard Gere) tries to make a business deal. After Edward orders her snails while she’s in the restroom, Vivian can’t figure out how to eat them and accidentally ends up flinging one across the room.
Known as The Voltaire during filming, the restaurant is now named Cicada and it’s located in downtown Los Angeles.
(#14) Cafe Lalo - ‘You’ve Got Mail’
Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan teamed back up for the 1999 hit You’ve Got Mail, which features a number of Upper West Side, New York City, exteriors as a central part of the story.
While you sadly can’t visit the fictional Fox Books or The Shop Around the Corner, you can stop by Cafe Lalo where Joe (Hanks) and Kathleen (Ryan) had a coffee date. The cafe, which also has a full bar, is located on West 83rd Street in Manhattan.
(#13) Serendipity 3 - ‘Serendipity’ And ‘One Fine Day’
Serendipity 3 first opened in New York City and has endured throughout the decades, attracting big names like Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol to Beyonce and Selena Gomez.
Known for fabulous desserts like the frozen hot chocolate, Serendipity 3 has made its way into several romantic comedies, including One Fine Day and Serendipity. In the latter, a chance encounter leads to two strangers, Sara (Kate Beckinsale) and Jonathan (John Cusack), sharing a dessert at the restaurant, and its name becomes a central theme in the plot of the film.
