  (#3) Obito Uchiha

  • Naruto Shippūden

  History: Known as Tobi until his identity is revealed, Obito Uchiha has been acting under Madara's will. That's because when he was a child, his body was crushed by falling rocks, and his ancient ancestor nursed him back to health - and used the opportunity to persuade him that the only way towards a peaceful world was to brainwash the populace and steal their chakra. 

  Jutsu: Obito's signature ability is Kamui, which allows him to move from one dimension to another. Because he uses his mangekyo sharingan to do this, Kakashi possesses the same ability to a limited degree. When he becomes the Ten Tails Jinchuuriki, he gains even more abilities, such as the power to use Truth-Seeking Balls.

  Their Fate: Like Pain, Obito realizes the error of his ways through Naruto's help. However, Obito's path to redemption won't be as easy, because Madara isn't repenting at all, and there's still Kaguya and Black Zetsu to deal with. However, he is able to heal several people before he passes away, and afterwards he's able to send his spirit to inhabit Kakashi and help him fight before he finally joins Rin in the afterlife.

  (#11) Zetsu

  • Naruto Shippūden

  History: Zetsu is actually two people - Black Zetsu and White Zetsu. Black Zetsu was created by Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, and is essentially the physical manifestation of her will. White Zetsu was one the early victims of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's Infinite Tsukuyomi, and was pulled out of the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path in order to fuse with Black Zetsu and some DNA from Hashirama Senju.

  Jutsu: Black Zetsu and White Zetsu have a wide range of abilities, many of which are derived from other people: for example, Hashirama's cells allow them to use Wood Release. They also have individual abilities, such as the ability to separate into two distinct bodies (and in Black Zetsu's case control whoever he attaches to), use telepathy, and more. Their signature ability is Mayfly, which lets them travel quickly by merging with the ground.

  Their Fate: During the 4th Shinobi War, Sasuke used Zetsu to test out his Eternal Mangekyo, stabbing him with a blade formed by Amaterasu. As for Black Zetsu, Naruto seals both him and his mother Kaguya into a Satellite, trapping them there for eternity.

  (#4) Orochimaru

  • Naruto, Naruto Shippūden, Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Bonds, Ninja World

  History: Orochimaru was only in the Akatsuki briefly - he kept trying to steal other member's bodies, so he wasn't exactly welcome. His goal is to become immortal so that has the time to learn every jutsu, a goal he pursues through extensive unethical experiments. 

  Jutsu: Orochimaru's most unique jutsu is Living Corpse Reincarnation, which allows him to transfer his consciousness from one body to another, prolonging his lifespan. He accomplished this with serious body modifications that basically let him break down into thousands of poisonous snakes. He can summon snakes to fight for him in battle, revive corpses, and use Curse Sealing jutsu to control others.

  Their Fate: Orochimaru is actually one of the only members of the Akatsuki who survives the series - which kind of makes sense since his whole thing is reviving himself over and over again. In Boruto, he is a defanged version of himself. Still running experiments, but experiments that aren't nearly as brutal as the ones he used to do, and focusing on raising his son Mitsuki.

  (#12) Juzo Biwa

  History: Juzo Biwa was Itachi's first partner in the Akatsuki. Like Kisame, he's from the village of Kirigakure, where he was a member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. One of his most well-known battles was fought against Might Duy, Guy's father.

  Jutsu: As a former member of the Akatsuki, Juzo's abilities aren't quite as clear as the other members. His primary fighting style involves his sword, the Kubikiribōchō. He's also capable of using water release, and has defensive abilities strong enough to survive Duy's Eight Gates Released Formation.

  Their Fate: While on a mission in Kirigakure, Jūzō and Itachi end up in combat with a team of hunters led by Yagura. While they're able to easily dispatch of most of them, Yagura launches a Tailed Beast Ball at Juzo that spells the end of his life. Juzo is upset to expire in the nation he hates. Before he does, Itachi makes sure he's holding his beloved sword.

  (#10) Hidan

  • Naruto Shippūden

  History: Hidan is from Yugakure, a village that put aside military concerns in favor of pacificism. As a follower of Jashin, Hidan was in favor of violence and and warfare, and ended up defecting when he couldn't persuade the government to see things his way.
  
  Jutsu: As a practitioner of Jashinism, Hidan is the Jashin Ritual and Curse, which allows him to turn himself into a living voodoo doll - all damage done to him is done to the one who inflicts it. He's also immortal, which is part of what allows him to take so much damage in the first place.

  Their Fate: After a battle with Team 10 and Team 7, Shikamaru Nara lured Hidan into the Nara Forest, where he's laid an intricate trap for him. Shikamaru ends up decapitating him and trapping him in a hole full of explosive tags. Because he's immortal, he'll be there for eternity.

  (#9) Deidara

  History: Deidara was once an Iwagakure ninja who served under Onoki. He quickly grew bored with his regimented life, and decided to leave the service in order to pursue his explosion-themed art. Eventually, the Akatsuki recruited him by force. He was resistant at first, but one he saw how powerful (and artistically gorgeous) Itachi was, he joined without complaint.

  Jutsu: Deidara's most prominent ability is his kekkei genkai, Explosion Release. By combining earth and lightning chakra natures, he can create explosions with his chakra. By using the mouths on his hands and on his chest, he can create clay. He combines these two abilities to produce explosive clay statues, which he considers to be both exceptionally powerful and artistically important.

  Their Fate: In a last-ditch effort to defeat Sasuke, Deidara transforms himself into a bomb. His self-sacrifice turns out to be completely pointless, since Sasuke is able to summon Manda and use him as a shield. Later, Deidara is resurrected using Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation by Kabuto, and he fights for a brief time in the Fourth Shinobi World War.
