  • 2013 Vision Gran Turismo on Random Best Futuristic BMW Concept Cars We Wish Were Mad

    (#3) 2013 Vision Gran Turismo

This concept stands apart for being the only car on this list you could actually drive. Yes, you, for a lot less than you think. Just go buy a PlayStation 4 and a copy of the latest Gran Turismo. That's like, half the cost of a set of tires for an M3! All right, you won't be able to drive it to work or anything, but this legit BMW "digital" concept car could still be yours today.
  • 2011 Vision Connected Drive on Random Best Futuristic BMW Concept Cars We Wish Were Mad

    (#19) 2011 Vision Connected Drive

Despite having another Boardroom Buzzword Soup name, at least the Connected Drive is still an awesome concept car. The idea of this car, quite apart from the excellent styling, is that it will communicate with other cars and the driver on a virtual network, setting the framework for a fully self-driving infrastructure. Which would almost be a shame, considering how much fun this car must be to drive. Oh well...at least this Vision's name doesn't acronym down to any embarrassing sexual...

Oh, JESUS, people! Is somebody working through some issues in Germany or something?
  • 1999 Z9 Gran Turismo on Random Best Futuristic BMW Concept Cars We Wish Were Mad

    (#18) 1999 Z9 Gran Turismo

Despite looking cool, this concept was one of the more important ones to date. In sort of the same way the E25 helped to set BMW's design language from 1992 to 2000, the Z9 was one of two cars that set the company's design language from 2000 to present. You can see echoes of it in almost everything produced today. Interesting fact: the Z9 was powered by a mid-mounted V-8 diesel, which later found its way into the 740d.
  • 1995 BMW Z18 on Random Best Futuristic BMW Concept Cars We Wish Were Mad

    (#15) 1995 BMW Z18

All right, obviously nobody would actually buy this thing if BMW had produced it. The Z18 is practically a parody of itself, an almost cynical commentary on the mid-90s emergence of wannabe "crossover" vehicles. But still, in a way, you do have to wonder if the world is truly better off without at least a few of these oddballs driving around.
  • 2011 328 Hommage on Random Best Futuristic BMW Concept Cars We Wish Were Mad

    (#16) 2011 328 Hommage

Love it or hate it, this retro concept car take on the 328 Spyder is definitely a head-turner.
  • 2015 All-Electric i8 on Random Best Futuristic BMW Concept Cars We Wish Were Mad

    (#6) 2015 All-Electric i8

A recent design study into the plausibility of building an all-electric hypercar, the i8 might best be thought of as a Tesla Model S on some seriously heavy German steroids.
