In School Days, Makoto and Sekai start off as good friends. Sekai helps Makoto get with his long time crush, Kotonoha, but the anime quickly turns sour when Makoto can't seem to commit to Kotonoha and begins sleeping with all the girls in school, including Sekai! Little did he know that Sekai had strong feelings for him and in her desperation, accuses Makoto with impregnating her.
Makoto responds by publicly shunning her, but the event still results in a pretty bad reputation for him. In true Makoto fashion, he decides that being with Kotonoha is better than nothing, which drives Sekai to seek one of the best anime revenges of all time by stabbing Makoto to death.

In Cowboy Bebop, the rivalry between Spike and Vicious starts when they become comrades in the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate. They both fall for the same woman, Julia, who decides to leave them both. Spike later learns that Julia, under the threat of death, had been ordered by Vicious to kill him. Instead of having to murder Spike, she chooses to disappear. For years, she survives while on the run, but is eventually killed by assassins of the syndicate. This serves as the catalyst for Spike's decision to finally face Vicious.
In the finale of Cowboy Bebop, Spike infiltrates the Red Dragon base to take on Vicious. Although Spike is critically wounded during the encounter, he manages to finish off Vicious with a shot to the chest, resulting in the best revenge in the entire series.

Lelouch rejects his parents and their plans for world domination, deciding to seek his almighty revenge by using his Geass to turn the gods against them, killing both Charles and Marianne, and then taking the throne as Emperor.

During the Final Selection exam, Tanjiro comes face-to-face with the demon who is responsible for murdering Urokodaki's former students. Upon realizing that Sabito and Makomo were eaten by this demon, Tanjiro attacks him in a fit of rage. Tanjiro is able to sever the demon's neck and avenge his fellow swordsmen. It's a moving scene as the souls of Urokodaki's students are finally able to depart to the afterlife, bringing Urokodaki a sense of peace and closure.

In the Last Exile, Alex Row is the captain of the rogue battleship Silvana. It is revealed that in the past, he lost his fiancé to an attack by the heartless and cruel Maestro Delphine when their two ships collided. The impact caused Alex's fiancé to be thrown into The Grand Stream, to be lost forever. The tragedy fueled a hatred in Alex, along with an unrelenting desire to seek revenge.
