  (#12) Mad Pierrot Is Petrified Of Cats In 'Cowboy Bebop'

  Problems with cats are actually surprisingly common in the world of anime. There are at least two - Omamori Himari and Nyan Koi - where a cat allergy is central to the plot. There are also quite a number of characters who are afraid of cats for some reason or another - Ranma Saotome, Gilbert Nightray - the list goes on.

  But one of the most interesting examples is Mad Pierrot of Cowboy Bebop. The reason for his fear of cats is that when he was enduring painful human experimentation, a cat used to watch him. He begins to associate cats with his trauma, and is reduced to a sobbing, screaming wreck when he sees one. His intense reaction to the meows of a toy cat is actually what allows Spike and company to defeat him.

  As you may have surmised from the name, Death The Kid is the son of Death himself. You'd think that someone with that kind of lineage would be pretty unflappable, but that's not the case. Actually, he's completely obsessed with symmetry. He both strongly appreciates symmetrical things and gets upset to the point of panicking or even fainting when the objects and individuals around him aren't symmetrical. How he tolerates his own hair is an open question.

  Inuyasha isn't the kind of guy who would willingly take commands from anybody, but when it comes to Kagome he doesn't have much of a choice. That's because he wears a necklaces that he can't take off that allows Kagome to curb his behavior by yelling "sit, boy!" When she does, he's forced to do exactly that - but because he tries to resist, he usually just falls flat on his face. While she sometimes uses this for strategic reasons, she also uses it when she's annoyed with him.

  Fire is potentially dangerous to pretty much everybody, but Mizore Shirayuki is epsecially vulnerable. Why? Because she's a snow woman, a kind of yokai with ice based powers. This not only means that she'll struggle against someone with fire powers in battle, it also means that she has trouble with any kind of cooking that requires her to use a stove.

  Rain doesn't just evoke one of the saddest moments in the entire series, it's also a specific weakness for Roy Mustang. Because his alchemy powers are flame based, he can't successfully ignite in heavy rain or humidity. That doesn't mean he can't kick butt - he's still a combat expert with proficiency in multiple weapons - but alchemy is off the table.

  (#8) Ghouls Can't Eat Anything Except Human Flesh In 'Tokyo Ghoul'

  Why do Ghouls persistently eat human flesh when doing so makes them vulnerable to attack, and many of them actually feel guilty about chowing down on another sentient species? Because they literally can't eat anything else. Anything that another species might eat, be it meat, vegetables, grains, dairy, or anything else, will not only taste repulsive to a ghoul, but will also make them violently ill. As such, it's kind of hard to blame them for their diets, even if humans don't exactly benefit.
